Over the last six months — as we set out to develop our various projects — we also wanted to make new relationships with industry partners that we respect and trust to help further develop the creative and find the best ways to bring them to market.
The fine people over at Aircraft Pictures are just the kind of partners we had in mind for our latest project, Daughter of Bells, which chronicles the adventures of a young girl in a mysterious landscape of music and magic. When a meteor shower triggers an attack on the musical city of Cadenza, the inhabitants are turned to stone save one brave girl named Brio. On her quest for help, Brio’s encounters with the diverse tribes of the Madrigal Desert lead her on an incredible journey of musical discovery — revealing the key to restoring life in Cadenza and creating harmony for all.
Aircraft is the Toronto-based, independent production company behind the Golden Globe and Oscar-nominated animated feature The Breadwinner. The film, based on a book by Canadian author Deborah Ellis and adapted by Canadian filmmaker Anita Doron, tells the story of an 11-year-old Afghan girl who disguises herself as a boy so she can earn money to support her family after her father is jailed by the Taliban.
Directed by Nora Twomey, the project was an international co-production between Aircraft, Ireland’s Cartoon Saloon and Luxembourg’s Melusine Productions. It also received six Canadian Screen Awards nominations — including one for best motion picture — and was awarded Best Animated Feature Film by the Toronto Film Critics Association and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.
We’re thrilled to be working with Aircraft to bring Daughter of Bells to life as an animated film, adventure game, and book series. As a follow up to The Breadwinner, Anita Doron has also signed on to write the feature film screenplay.
We can’t wait to tell you more.
